Nurse’s Aide Arrested at New Rochelle Nursing Home for Elder Abuse

Merline Bynoe, 40, a nurse’s aide at the Dumont Nursing Home in New Rochelle was arrested Friday for elder abuse. The family suspected a problem and set up a video camera to document the treatment of a 61-year old female resident at the nursing home.

Bynoe of 1579 Metropolitan Avenue in the Bronx, NY was charged with Endangering an Incompetent Person. She was arrested on July 29th and was due back in court today.

New York State has fined Dumont Masonic Home in New Rochelle, NY a whopping $20,000. This on top of a $10,000 fine, lated reduced to $6,500, from the Federal government. Both fines relate to a survey of the facility on July 16, 2009…Dumont Masonic Home was surveyed on July 16, 2009 and cited for multiple deficiencies. The fine was reduced by 35% to $6,500 because the facility waived their right to a hearing.

UPDATE 8/3/11: Will David of the Journal News reports “Bynoe was arrested Friday and freed Monday on $5,000 bail after being arraigned in New Rochelle City Court.”
