What Was the outcome?

After launching New Rochelle Community Pulse, we searched for other forums related to our schools in New Rochelle, we came across the following site:

Parents for New Rochelle, Dedicated to our Children and their Education

This is how it reads:
“After attending a Board of Education meeting along with a few other Davis parents last night (2/26/2008) it occurred to us that we need a forum where concerned parents can come together to ensure that our children receive the best education possible in a clean, safe and nurturing environment. As the meeting went on it became clear that parents don’t necessarily know what is happening in school on a day to day basis; yet, the Board’s response was consistently “we won’t know unless you tell us.” Since the onus is clearly on us as parents to identify issues and hold the school administration accountable for resolving them, it is imperative that we have an easy mechanism by which to voice our concerns, share ideas, and petition the administration for resolution.

Please use this site to help us all make New Rochelle the best city it can be; and ensure that our children are given every opportunity to become the best people that they can be.

Sign the Letter to the School Administration to address current concerns at Davis Elementary School”

It seems it was initiated in February 2008, but has not experienced much activity. Nevertheless, it appears to remain up at this time. We wonder if the issues they felt compelled to put on the web were addressed. If anybody would like a pdf, we will gladly e-mail it to you.

carlos sanchez is even more vindicated by the recent results re: the regents scores posted in the journal news on august 12. it is incomprehensible to think that our kids fell below COUNTY NORM in 8 out of 10 test areas. we only succeeded in Physics and Chemistry due to the fact that these courses are usually for our brightest kids. The superintendent has said that all of our schools are rated by the State as “high performing.” well maybe not — i am going to check this out for myself.

point is that carlos is on the trail of something important and I wish i had a demographic to indicate what percentage of the kids scoring below county average come from south of New Rochelle Road.

and, be disturbed, very disturbed over the graduation rate which I believe rests now at 72%. i never thought the queen city would slip so much as it has recently. i guess we will continue to hear the bleating of board members that we are “underfunded” although of course, we live in the highest student per capita state in the nation. i am 71 years old and was a young man the last time we had a no school tax year and don’t count on the proposed salary cap either for help. the point is we are falling further down the slope and, as i said earlier, it is not the teachers fault. they are competent and willing. the problem rests elsewhere. you can figure it out.

    keep it up carlos
