If Special Education is of particular importance, you definitely want to read Dear Blabby’s Blog. She has a lot to say and is not afraid to do so. You may also ask her for advice.
This area is of great importance to New Rochelle High School parents since “Students with Disabilities” was an accountability area where according to the 2006-2007 New York State Report Card, New Rochelle High School did not me Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in neither English Language Arts nor Math. Should we assume that the $18,000 plus that we pay for the education of our most challenged students may not be enough? and/or that these children are not able to learn? and/or that our schools our schools do not have the resources to teach them? and/or the accommodations are just not enough? and/or, this is a popular one, should we just blame the parents? Maybe this last one will work the best for some.
Something is definitely wrong with this picture. As it often happens in New Rochelle, students who have the most difficulty, continue to struggle.
