Brian MacMennamin has a new partner and MacMennamin’s Grill has a new name – Don Coqui. The new partner is reportedly Jimmy Rodriguez who owned Jimmy’s Bronx Cafe off Fordham Road near the Deegan Expresswway. Jimmy’s Bronx Cafe was a popular hangout for members of the New York Yankees back in the day. A person answering the phone earlier today says that although no date has been set for the official Grand Opening, the restaurant is open while they work in the new menu. We’re told it’s Caribbean fusion with some old MacMennamin’s favorites. Anyone have further details?

So…I’m just curious at
So…I’m just curious at what the menu is serving. Is it a standard Latin Caribbean menu? Truthfully New Rochelle is in dire need of an eatery with decent Latin Caribbean food. I can’t even put that little Dominican spot on Main St. across from Monroe on the map. Their food is ok, but New Rochelle needs a spot ala Willy’s Steak House or Joe’s (both in The Bronx on Westchester Avenue). We need a mofongo house!!! I digress, there angle would have to be live music – Latin jazz and more accomodating pricing!!!
Had dinner with the wife.
Had dinner with the wife. Not very elaborate, but it was a $124.87 ding. Given the overwhelming choices of good food in New Ro from great Mexican, Indian and Italian places to a couple of good Peruvian places and some good generic (American?)eats on North Aven near Quaker Ridge, why would you come to this place. They need an angle – a hook to get people to come, because if they think it’s their food – NOT.

Dinner was good but I must
Dinner was good but I must agree with you, it was a bit pricey. Bella Bella is ok but boring. Not that El Coqui isnt boring it will never be a G&G.
Had a lovely dinner at Don
Had a lovely dinner at Don Coqui this past Sunday. It was a bit pricey (over $200 for a family of 4) and it took a while to get the bill but overall it was nice evening out.
Still prefer Bella Bella.
