My family and I are most distressed by the assault on one of our neighbors here in Sutton Manor. While I appreciate the correction of the facts, I have to disagree with the conclusion that Monroe students are the ones parking in this neighborhood. The parking problem is caused by residents of the streets on the other side of Echo Ave., where there are a number of illegal apartments. Since they don’t receive parking they park here in our neighborhood. We have had taxis, motorcycles and I have observed people parking and walking across Echo to the streets on the other side. If the city would investigate the proliferation of these dangerous and illegal apartments, we would not be overwhelmed by the traffic and dangerous conditions these cars cause. Because they park on both sides of the street, the entrances are narrowed to one lane, which would make it more difficult for emergency vehicles to enter safely. I have never seen a Monroe student park here, I have observed older, men and women sometimes with children park here.
We hope and pray that our neighbor recovers from this brutal crime.
We in this neighborhood try to keep a close watch on strangers here.

Assault on Sutton Manor: Illegal apartments assumption not facts
My family and I are also very concerned over the assault of one of the residents in the Sutton Manor; also because we have a friend who resides there.
As a home owner of a house “on the other side of Echo Avenue”, as described by one of the commentators to the ” New Rochelle Resident Brutally Assaulted by Two Men Hiding in Bushes — UPDATED’ post, I have to say that it is nicer to make comments based on facts rather than on assumptions; because the comment was very perjuritive.
First of all, unlike Sutton Manor, literally almost all homes across the way from the Sutton Manor are either 2 or 3 family homes (ocasionally some even legally house more apartments) and which were adequately zoned many decades ago, since the grand majority were built in the early 1900’s. The excessive parking on the streets merely reflects the amount of cars that today’s families have. The average four person family nowdays, has 4 cars, so you can do the math. Also, these are houses whose lots average 50′ x 100′ making it impossible for any landlord to provide parking to any tenant in their narrow driveways. So, parking for the local tenants is always a headache….
However, assuming that there are illegal apartments “on the other side of Echo” is insulting to portray our multi-residential neighborhood as a location of illegalities and irregularities.
I have lived in the same house for close to 20 years and, I know all of my neighbors and their tenants(on my entire block) and, I know for a fact and not based on assumptions, that none have illegal apartments !!!
However, just like the commentator mentioned that “I have observed people parking and walking across Echo to the streets on the other side”; I, too, by living so close and with such a great view of the Sutton Manor entrance, also observe the people who go in and out of Sutton Manor. Being a stay-at-home mom and, by doing what mothers do so well, which is be attentive to what surrounds us, to ensure the safety of our children, I, too, see those people you see walking across to the “other side of Echo” … but, I, on the contrary of you, know if these people are from the immediate blocks or not and, know where these individuals go after they cross Echo …. and, believe me, these do not live on the “other side of Echo” … the great majority come from the Davenport buildings to park on your Sutton Manor after they fail to find parking on our blocks across from the Sutton Manor ….
I hope that the victim of this horrid attack recovers soon and, that these criminals are caught.
This is a sad day
We all regret this terrible thing that happened in the neighorhood. However, the lack of parking is not only from illegal apartments because there are lots of driveways and garages in the adjacent neighborhood. Monroe College students do park on these same adjacent streets and this is one reason why residents have to look elsewhere for parking, even in Sutton Manor. There are too many regulations in the city which allow many apartments and dormitories to be built with inadeqate amounts of parking. Let us hope our City Council members take some corrective action on zoning.
