In an impressive ceremony Gail Rice and Anthony Carbone were sworn in last evening at New Rochelle City Hall. Acting Judge Gail Rice became a City Judge and Anthony Carbone is now the Acting City Judge. City Judge Preston Scherr in his address said the “New Rochelle City Court is known as the people’s court.” He spoke about Anthony Carbone’s chairmanship of the New Rochelle Planning Board since 1987, and claimed it was recognized as one of the best boards in New York State.
Judge Gail Rice in her address cited former Mayor Tim Idoni for appointing her in l996 as the first Afro American woman to sit on this bench. Acting Judge Anthony Carbone in his address reminisced about the first time he had to present a case as a lawyer and that it was in the New Rochelle City Court. Jim Generoso, the Chief Court Clerk, organized the event and reception and was complimented by several people, including Carbone.
