New Rochelle and Hartsdale Robbery Spree May Be Linked to Assault Case in Sutton Manor

Talk of the Sound has learned that New Rochelle Police are considering that the recent assault of a New Rochelle man may have been an attempted taxi robbery that changed course when a man carrying a briefcase happened to walk towards his home where the pair of armed robbers were laying in wait. Police suspect that the pair may have been intending to request a taxi at that address but saw the opportunity to grab the briefcase and acted upon it.

New Rochelle Resident Brutally Assaulted by Two Men Hiding in Bushes

A New Rochelle resident was viscously assaulted and robbed earlier tonight outside his home in Sutton Manor. The man was just completing the walk from the New Rochelle train station to his home when two men who sprang from the bushes in front of his house, struck him in the head with a blunt instrument and then made off in a car parked nearby.

Cabbies on edge after robberies in Greenburgh, New Rochelle

A recent spate of robberies of taxi drivers — three in Greenburgh and one in New Rochelle — has rattled cabbies in the area and has taxi dispatchers taking steps to keep their drivers safe…a Blue Bird taxi in New Rochelle was sent to pick up two men at 55 Poplar Ave. Two fares got in and brandished what the 62-year-old driver thought was a gun. He gave them $35, and they fled.

New Rochelle Ppolice Detective Capt. Joseph Schaller told the Journal News “The incidents do have similarities. We have spoken to Greenburgh (police).”

Robbery at New Rochelle’s Marina Deli

Two masked gunmen robbed a city convenience store late Thursday night, police said…The men, both wearing ski masks and black jackets, stole $600 in cash and fled in an unknown direction.

As an aside, in the story on the taxi robbery, the Journal News finally decided to provide a physical description of the pair of armed robbers who have been terrorizing New Rochelle for the past few weeks.

The robbers were described as two black men, 18 to 22 years old who wore black knit caps and gloves. One was short and thin; the other was tall and thin, police said.
