Twitter users may have noticed an increase in tweets coming form the Tasti D-lite store in New Rochelle. They have begun to turn up in our “New Ro Buzz” list of links (home page, center, near the top) and in our new Twittermap Geolocation list of links (home page, center, near the bottom). The store is among the first in the company’s chain of 47 locations to allow customers to automatically send a Tweet each time they make a purchase at the story.
The New Rochelle Tasti D-lite store is located next to the Wykagyl Starbucks,.
Investorspot.com is reporting:
Participants register for their loyalty program “Treat Cards” online, given the option of allowing Tasti D-Lite to send an alert out on their behalf whenever points are earned or redeemed – for example at their New Rochelle location. When cards are swiped at the New Rochelle’s point-of-sale register, the user’s Twitter or Foursquare followers immediately are sent a tweet that says: “I just earned 11 TastiRewards points at Tasti D-Lite New Rochelle.”
This is part of a growing “geolocation” trend which link businesses with consumer’s social media services and smart phones like Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android phone and Research in Motion’s Blackberry phone. In addition to Twitter, other popular services based on geolocation include Foursquare and Loopt. These and other services allow users to keep track or “stalk” (depending on your point of view) their friends as they move around the real world. When users opt-in for these programs they may get special alerts when they are near a store offering a special deal for geolocation users only or to augment loyalty programs such as the Tasti D-Lite program described above.
