Spring has sprung and whether you call it a “garage sale,” “lawn sale,” “yard sale,” “attic sale,” “porch sale,” “room sale,” “backyard sale,” “tag sale,” “patio sale,” “flea market” or “rummage sale” or even a Fancy, highfalutin “estate sale”, the season for bargain hunting has begun here in New Rochelle. From now until the fall, yours truly, the “Tag Sale Lady” is going to help you plan your strategy by providing a weekly roundup of every sale I can find advertised in New Rochelle and geolocating them on a printable Google map for your convenience. Don’t ask me what “geolocating” is but you will love the handy-dandy map!
I will start each week by gathering information from the Pennysaver, the Journal News classified ads and Craigslist but I am going to need help from y’all. If you have any other good sources of listings be sure and let me know. If you see a sale advertised on a utility pole let me know. And if YOU are having a garage sale then definitely let me know. Who knows you may even see me there!

For those planning a Garage Sale, you should know the City of New Rochelle has stiff penalties for holding garage sales without a permit so know the rules. Remember, the Tag Sale Lady always says says “holding a Garage Sale in New Rochelle without a permit is penny wise and pound foolish.” Not really but you know what I mean. Happy Bargain Hunting
SUMMARY OF NEW ROCHELLE CITY CODE ON GARAGE SALES
- The City of New Rochelle requires a permit from the City Clerk to hold garage sale. Along with the form, the resident must pay a $25.00 fee and provide proof of public liability insurance coverage of at least $500,000.
- Individuals are permitted no more than two Garage Sales per year; Neighborhood Associations are permitted no more than four Garage Sales per year. Each Garage Sale is limited to to not more than three consecutive days.
- Garage Sales are limited to the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- The penalty for violating the City Code can be severe. Every article of Personal Property displayed, offered for sale, or sold in violation of this Chapter shall constitute a separate offense under this Chapter. In addition, each and every day a Garage Sale is conducted in violation of this Chapter shall constitute a separate offense. The fine is up to but no more than $250 for each offense.
