On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, the 50 member Central State University Concert Chorus of Ohio and its Director Prof. William Henry Caldwell arrived at Shiloh Baptist church and received a States welcoming. Members of the Shiloh congregation gathered holding “welcome” signs as the “Red carpet” was rolled out for the Grammy Award nominated choir, followed by a special dinner and reception with invited guests, CSU Alumni from around NY State, in their honor.
The highly energetic Spirit-filled CSU Choir rocked the filled pews of Shiloh Baptist Church for a 1h 35m concert singing a number of Spiritual medleys and classical pieces such as “Guide my feet and Nun Ist das Heil und die Kraft from Cantata BWV50”.
Exposing the youth of New Rochelle and surrounding areas to the creative arts has been the motivation behind Rev. DeQuincy Hentz inviting the CSU Choir to Shiloh for the third straight year which has also included raising funds for this educational institution and providing entertainment for the community at large. “It is important for our youth to be exposed to young people who are exploring other genres of music and engaged in positive, disciplined group activities”, stated Rev DeQuincy Hentz, Senior Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. In an effort to support this young peoples choir Shiloh plans to continue to invite the Central State University Concert Chorus annually and increase the fundraising efforts each year.
