Former Iona College Coach “Resigns” After DWI Arrest in Long Island

DD98744B-5116-4C26-8966-F79174BADCFB.jpgTim Welsh has resigned as Hofstra’s men’s basketball coach after he was arrested early Friday morning on by Nassau County police in Levittown, NY. Welsh was charged with DWI and immediately suspended by Hofstra.

Welsh was the coach at Iona and Providence but never coached a game for Hofstra after having signed a five-year deal last month worth $3 million.

“The university accepted the resignation in the best interests of the university and of the men’s basketball program” said Hofstra spokesman Stephen Gorchov.
