Man Jumps from I-95 Overpass in New Rochelle Lands Head First and Survives (UPDATED)

UPDATE: The man was taken to Sound Shore Medical but later died as a result of his injuries.

UPDATE: The man who died is James D. Bennett of New Rochelle, 57, according to New York State Police.

A resident of Lockwood Manor at 41 Lockwood Avenue in New Rochelle jumped from the I-95 overpass at North Avenue near the intersection of Garden/Burling this afternoon. Sources at the scene tell Talk of the Sound the man landed on his head but survived.

Surface streets were closed in the area. I-95 traffic was reduced to one lane.
