While out and about in downtown New Rochelle this morning, I snapped a few shots of the current condition of the LeCount Avenue buildings. I think that Capelli has until July 31st to improve the appearance. I will take a few follow up shots in early August to see how they do.
I always thought the apartment building above were handsome buildings. The windows on the first floor are boarded up with plywood, which I thought was not to code in NR.
UPDATE *** Scroll down for more photos, including photos of the murals in the NR post office.
Here are photos of the Standard Star building.
Here are photos of the post office in New Rochelle.
The mural below says “John Pell receives partial payment for 6000 acres”
The mural below says “The post rider brings news of the Battle of Lexington”
Apartments shown are also eligible for historic designation
It is tracic to think of the buildings that will be torn down for the LeCount Square project. How many lwsuits are necessary before the Democratic majority on City Council has a change of heart?
Standard Star Building
Not pictured, the beautiful Standard Star building. One planning document states, “The Beaux Arts façade along North Avenue is a particularly striking example of the colonial revival style. The building appears to meet the requirements for NRHP eligibility.” It is my understanding that they planned to tear this building down for the Lecount Place project.
