An elderly man drove his car down Forest Avenue, turned into the driveway of his son’s house at 373 Forest Avenue, then managed to steer the vehicle between two parked cars, past a portable driveway basketball hoop, into the backyard, and down an embankment before coming to rest with the vehicle partially submerged in a small wooded area behind the house.
The homeowner, Roy Markel, called for an ambulance. Two passengers in the vehicle were injured and taken by ambulance to Sound Shore Medical Center. The driver, whose name was not released by police on the scene, was given a sobriety test in the driveway. He struggled to even stand let alone take any sobriety tests so the police took him down the police station with a predictable outcome. Talk of the Sound will obtain a copy of the police report tomorrow to get further details.
UPDATE: NRPD confirms this was a DWI personal injury motor vehicle accident.
