The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated October as Respect Life Month, an annual observance that focuses attention on the sanctity of human life at every stage and the responsibility that Catholics share to protect and defend it.
Father Bigelin celebrated Mass at Holy Name Church on Sunday on Respect Life Sunday. Similar masses were celebrated throughout the Archdiocese. Archbishop Dolan celebrated Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The Ancient Order of Hibernians participated in the Mass as a group. Members throughout New York City and Westchester, Rockland, Nassau and Suffolk counties took part. Members assembled on the cathedral’s front steps before the mass.
The National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life sponsored the 12th annual National Black Catholic Vigil for Life in the Lady Chapel at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Saturday concluding with prayers at the crypt of Venerable Pierre Toussaint.
Special Masses and activities have been planned throughout the archdiocese over the course of the month, many of them in cooperation with the archdiocesan Family Life/Respect Life Office.
