Talk of the Sound Radio debuted last Friday amid much weeping and gnashing of teeth around City Hall. Last week was mostly about introducing myself and the show and receiving calls of support from Talk of the Sound contributors and readers. This week we are going to get straight to the issues.
I am still sorting out the format of the show and it may change over time but the plan right now is to begin each show with a review of some of the top stories on Talk of the Sound from the week prior. I will discuss the stories with Anthony Galletta and then we will take calls. To begin the second half of the show, we will interview a guest. We will have a few regular callers including a review of the Talk of the Sound Community calendar and the latest from Division Street with our new friend “Abdul”.
Our guest this week will be Karen Hessel. She will tells us about the 10-10-10 Project: A Day in the Life of New Rochelle, an amazing project to document New Rochelle through over 10,000 photographs all taken on a single day. She will describe the project and explain how residents can contribute their own photographs to the effort.

lou
you sound like a broken record go see noam maybe he can help you with stuff to say on all the shows you call in on.
Mr. Roundtable
I wish Mr. Lou Roundtable would start getting a new speach writer its the same old song over and over…..
abdul
leave him alone a guy tring to do the right thing.
“Abdul” the caller
Nice show but please, in the interest of credibility, stop the ridiculous calls from “Abdul”. That accent is so fake it borders on insulting. The caller should man-up and call as himself or practice another accent because this one is not cutting it. Exactly who does he think he’s fooling?
Anyone can call
WVOX encourages everyone and anyone to call. As the show host I have no control over who calls, what they say or how they say it.
Understood, but he’s so
Understood, but he’s so obviously a fraud that anything he says is suspect and as a result, can’t and won’t be taken seriously. Is he supposed to be for comic relief? If so, it’s not working unless of course he’s working with a sock puppet in which case…lol.
The format at WVOX is well established
If you are not aware that their policy is to have an open forum where anyone can call in then you are simply not familiar with WVOX.
I think the station manager would be very happy to have a problem where we have more callers than air time but we are a new show and I am not going to start discouraging anyone from calling. We want callers. If they want to use a phony accent (which, quite frankly, I cannot place) then so be it.
To your specific point, I do not have a lot of interest in people whose idea of free speech is to tell other people what they can and cannot say. If you don’t like Abdul then don’t listen. If you don’t like the show don’t listen. If you think the show should be run differently get your own show. If you don’t like this blog start your own.
I suppose if you were really concerned, you could also always call in next week and complain about Abdul.
Umm, I think you need to
Umm, I think you need to simmer down. You don’t need to get your knickers in a twist. I know you must be feeling your oats because you dispensed with a competitor toute de suite but EVERYONE is not out to get you. Don’t be so paranoid. When you can’t accept a little bit of constructive criticism then you will never learn anything and yes, I am very familiar with WVOX having been in the studio there MANY times myself Mr. Rookie. If you wish, any engineer who works there…and they are all first rate, will let you know who is on the line prior to your conversing with the caller and YOU, as the host can let any one of them know when you want the caller gone. A little horizontal finger motion across the neck will do the trick. When you calm down, read back through the chain. I believe I complemented you on the show. There is no need for you to go off like a rabid coyote. It makes you sound unhinged and quite frankly, it’s a complete turn off. And please, don’t lecture me about free speech. I teach it. I know it all too well. Considering the recent events in New Rochelle between the war of the hyperlocals, you of all people should not try to engage in subterfuge. “Abdul” is a ridiculous component of an otherwise interesting show. Your response to a little bit of constructive criticism is unfortunate. As a confessed novice to the radio game you need not be so volatile in you reaction to suggestions from someone who has had experience in an area you have recently entered. You too can learn something.
And your final comments; “Get your own show, get your own blog, don’t listen” etc, infantile and childish. I think you need a nap.
Oh, well that sounds like an
Oh, well that sounds like an excuse from my unborn seven year old.
“it’s your show” hang up on the caller. You don’t have to permit it.
Silence equals acceptance.
Roberta the Postperson
How do you propose I hang up on a caller?
I am in a studio. In another room is an engineer. He handles all the calls and he works for WVOX not me. The station’s goal and his job is to put as many calls through as possible.
I am left to surmise that you have not been in the WVOX studio and do not know how things work over there but I am a guest on their air and I operate by their rules and within their ethos. And their ethos is spelled out in their call letters…WVOX. They are the voice of the people and that means callers are the metric used to evaluate shows.
If they rename the station WCOX and put me in charge we can talk about your ideas on how to censor callers to Talk of the Sound Radio.
