For the people who get tickets in New Rochelle…wake up !
Lets clear the air here….I know this site is run by someone who is on Cynthia Lobo’s payroll but I hope you all hear me out for the sake of New Rochelle. (See NYS Board of Elections)
1. I am a Jewish man but I am not going to quote Hebrew scripture to endorse diversity.
2. My brother and I are graduates of New Rochelle High School and are very proud to call New Rochelle home.
3. I plan to use my law degree to help the local community (New Rochelle) that gave so much back to me .
I can’t support someone for City Court Judge of New Rochelle that randomly “settles” in New Rochelle. How do I know Ms. Lobo is not using this seat for simple political gain? Lobo never made an effort to reach out to the democrats so her frustration led her to the GOP with some type of entitlement. I can’t believe that the New Rochelle republicans, that I grew up with and greatly respect, would support such a liberal hack. There is good reason she had no support from the Democratic Party!
However, it seems like the lifelong New Rochelle Republicans (whom I respect) are supporting this Obama “Change is good” Democrat. If you only knew what she said about you at the democratic meetings you would she is playing you all like a guitar.
The person most qualified and who presents herself professionally will win !
Yea, I was raised by a feminist attorney who quivers when she views the pictures of Ms. Lobo on her website, in a dress, with her little girls exposed (trying to not be X-rated). Besides being more qualified to preside over OUR court than Wisconsin’s own Cynthia Lobo, Ms. Kettner knows ethics and how to properly carry herself as a judicial candidate.
All you that have had negative things to say about Ms. Kettner should disclose your feelings when you are in front of her next year fighting you parking tickets in City Court!
Let’s level the playing field
Since Care4NewRo decided to get down and dirty let’s level the playing field. Vito Pinto’s decision to take a position in the Astorino administration was a godsend to the NR Dems. This allowed the dems to get Greg Varian out of the judge race so the fix was in for Kettner. For those who may not know, Kettner and Varian shared an office but Kettner kicked Varian out and now shares her office with Councilman Fertel, talk about being politically motivated Kettner is at the head of the line. After Varian was disposed of, Bramson sent a communication requiring all judicial candidates to take a PLEDGE not to primary or accept another line if not chosen as the candidate. That’s when Lobo and others withdrew because Lobo refused to be controlled. While the feminist attorney who raised you may not have approved of Lobo’s dress and her little girls, I wonder if your feminist attorney would approve of Kettner running around with a married man who by the way is an elected official? I’ll Support Lobo and her little girls over Kettner the law-breaker (adultery) for judge any day.
Mr. Sanchez on the money
Mr. Sanchez, your reputation precedes you and commands much respect. I totally agree with you and hope others follow suit to elect Cynthia Lobo who is the most experienced and dedicated candidate. Ms. Lobo comes from a middle class family of 7 and learned the hard but fair lessons of life. She knows the value of hard work and has gained many accolades as a result of her volunteerism in New Rochelle. Ms. Lobo built a law practice from the ground up as opposed to being handed a practice by her father. It is no secret that an assemblyman had much to do with Kettner gaining the candidacy and continues to campaign with her. You are 110% correct when you say Cynthia Lobo is exactly what the community needs!
A Different Endorsement From a Close-In Perspective
Six qualified and capable candidates presented themselves to the New Rochelle Democratic Committee for its designation to run as the Democratic nominee for City Court Judge. They were:
(1) Cynthia Lobo;
(2) Susan Kettner;
(3) Gary Trachten (me);
(4) Matthew Costa;
(5) Jayni Edelstein-Allegra; and
(6) David Lacher.
(Greg Varian had initially presented himself and campaigned for the designation and then withdrew to run for the special election for a County Board of Legislators seat.)
For more than 3 months, the candidates presented themselves together in council district meet-&-greet fora, and separately in personal or small group in-person and telephone meetings, to the around 120 district leaders in all parts of the city. There was an extraordinary vetting process with the discussions focusing on each and every candidate’s qualifications, experience and temperament. It was very competitive, but it was also entirely civil – indeed a friendly and respectful competition.
Cynthia Lobo (who had signed on to become a Democratic District Leader but has since said at a recent candidate forum that she didn’t realize what that meant — how is that for being a cautious judicial candidate?) dropped out very soon before the designating convention as did 2 other candidates, leaving only Ms. Kettner, Mr. Costa and me in the race.
The vote was by secret ballot. On the first round, Ms. Kettner emerged with more than 50% of the vote (as weighted, as the law requires, based on historical Democratic voting in the voter’s election district). I came in second; Mr. Costa came in third; and Mr. Lacher (despite having withdrawn) received some votes as well.
While I cannot read minds and know why each participant cast his or her vote as he or she secretly did, I do know that many district leaders were disappointed in the level of Ms. Lobo’s personal outreach.
Despite my personal disappointment, I am proud of the Committee’s thorough and highly democratic (small “d”) vetting process. Chairman Arnold Klugman demonstrated nothing but neutrality and even declined to cast a 1st round (which was the only round) ballot. Susan Kettner worked very hard in submitting herself to close and comparative scrutiny. That means a lot.
As far as I can determine, there appears to have been no similar vetting on the Republican side.
I vigorously competed with both candidates and I believe that I know well what each brings to the table. In truth, I like Cynthia Lobo and respect her experience. But I believe that Susan Kettner is the better choice. I believe that she would be the harder worker on the Bench. She is also well qualified and (as her literature says) smart, tough and fair.
I endorse Susan Kettner for City Court Judge.
Gary Trachten
Wake-Up Kettner was ordained long before the vote
With all due respect to Mr. Trachten, the vetting process he describes in detail is purely political. Varian “deciding” to run for county legislator was nothing more than the Democratic Party throwing him a bone to get him out of the judge race. Mr. Trachten also neglects to reveal the “pledge” every judge candidate was asked to honor. Honoring this “pledge” would deny Mr. Trachten and all other un-chosen candidates their Democratic rights to seek other nominations or run a primary. It is evident that Mr. Trachten is a devote card carrying New Rochelle Democratic shill.
From whole cloth??
NRinfo, where do you get such info? Do you make it up from whole cloth? If you have reliable sources who have first hand knowledge, why not tell us who they are? Or who you are.
I have personal knowledge on these matters. I know from being there that Susan Kettner was not pre-selected. If she had been, she would not have had to work so very hard, as she did, to get the designation. She took nothing for granted because nothing was granted.
Also, no one made taking a pledge a condition for getting the Committee’s designation. Party leaders asked the candidates to state whether they would pledge not to make a primary challenge. Candidates were free to answer in accordance with the dictates of their consciences. Committee members were free to vote, or not to vote, by secret ballot, for anyone who would reserve his or her right to make a primary challenge. In fact, I did not make the pledge. Instead, I said that although I had no intention to launch a primary contest if I would not get the Committee’s designation, I might do so if I would learn of something about the Committee designee that left me with the conviction that he or she was not fit to run or serve on the Bench. Nonetheless, I came in second. I respected the process. And I respect Susan Kettner.
Gary Trachten
From cloth to cloth!
It’s obvious you can’t see the forest from the trees. Your party loyalty should be applauded but reality is not your strong suit. Why don’t you enlighten us on the process that got Jared Rice the nomination for council district 3? Did he come to the convention with proxy’s in hand to take the nomination away from the chosen candidate (BOE trustee)?
For the record, Ms. Lobo was
For the record, Ms. Lobo was the only candidate to interview for the Republican nomination. That proves Ms. Lobo’s intestinal fortitude and resolve. No one else had the courage and commitment to challenge Ms. Kettner on the Democratic line in a City where the Democrats enjoy a near 2 to 1 voter registration advantage. What people don’t know is that Jared Rice stole the District 3 nomination from the convention because he felt that an African American judge candidate did not receive the respect he deserved. There are many Dems supporting Ms. Lobo, many publicly. In the end we have a choice between a political operative and loyal soldier, Susan Kettner, and a woman who chose t fight for her freedom of choice to change the political landscape of New Rochelle. Cynthia Lobo has more experience, diversity and leadership and deserves our vote.
