ESPN Names Ione College Soccer Player Hernandez-Raaen to Academic All-District Team

IonaCollegeLogo.jpgNEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona College men’s soccer senior defender Roberto Hernandez-Raaen has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the second All-District honor for Hernandez-Raaen, who was a part of the First Team last season.

The Gael captain is just one of two players to start all 15 games for Iona in 2010, leading a defense ranked 89th in the country in Team Goals Against Average (1.11) as of Oct. 31. He has two goals through this point in the season, with one game-winner and a 1-2 mark in penalty kick attempts. At the start of the year, Hernandez-Raaen was named to the MAAC Men’s Soccer Preseason All-MAAC Team and was a nominee for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.

A native of Madrid, Spain, Hernandez-Raaen carries a 3.79 GPA in International Business and Mathematics.
