I am hoping I will be able to reach out to people that have had their car towed away on Sat 11/20 on Maple Ave. for the parade. My car was ticketed, and towed and impounded on Saturday due to supposedly signs posted on Maple which were not visible at all.
I was one of abou 20 cars that were towed. I am absolutely outraged of how the city handled this. Parking on Maple Avge. is horrible to begin with, I have lived on this street for six years so I know first hand how hard it is to park around here. I had to go to the police station which they smirked and said oh your one of the one’s that were towed, I again stated to them that the signs were not visible what so ever but all they were concerned about was collecting my $115 in cash to get my car out of the impound. I know the city is hard up for money but they defintely made out on Saturday. First thing I did this morning was call the Mayor’s office and actually spoke with him directly. He asked me right away if the signs were visible and I said absolutely not or I obviously would not have parked there. He said he would look into it and call me back. I did receivce a call back this afternoon but not from him, instead it was a Police Officer who called me back to say he personally drove by and saw all the signs up in Red, which obviously there weren’t. I told the Officer that there are better signs when someone is having a Tag Sale. He also asked me which was interesting if the Mayor called me the day before to tell everyone on the street about the parking conditions which he defintely did not do. I also asked all the tenants in my building if they received a call from the Mayor and they all said NO. This is outrageous and I am asking people who were affected by this on Saturday to email me so we can do something about this.
Thank you

Solution: Read Talk of the Sound; Sign up For Alerts
Kerri,
It will do nothing to mollify you I am sure but for next time you and your neighbors should sign up for the City’s alert service. It is free and works very well. There is another one of the County. At least this way you wil get notice directly to your phone or inbox. The Mayor did make robo-calls but only to people who have signed up for the service.
Talk of the Sound has the text and a link to the audio which went out on 11-19.
11.20.10 Thanksgiving Parade — Traffic Advisory and Invitation
The news about the parade was on Talk of the Sound several times, also on the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce web site, the Journal News and WVOX many, many times.
On Friday at noon, I saw notices on Main Street on all of the parking meters.
It definitely sucks to be towed and no one wants to see anyone have to fork over $115 but you are not likely to find much support for the idea that you were blindsided by the fact of the parade. It was kind of big deal and got coverage in every local media outlet.
I am not saying this is the case with you but a lot of people reside in New Rochelle but do not pay much attention to what goes on here. If you are not going to read the local news outlets, monitor the City’s web site, listen to WVOX at the very least you need to sign up for the alerts.
