Hudson Park – Save Mondays & Tuesdays for Summer 2011

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

In the proposed 2011 budget, the city has closed Hudson Park on Mondays and Tuesdays to save money. Apparently the park is underutilized and at risk of losing city funding.

On local radio shows, I have heard one councilman looking for ideas. Bob Marrone on WVOX said it might be $1000 a day or week. A city sailing school was mentioned. Some city councilmen are trying to figure out a way to make the park profitable in order to meet the line budget for the two days. It sounds like they are looking for what many businesses call ‘alternate revenue streams’ or ‘ancillary income’.

In an effort to communicate what the public thinks and any ideas that we might have, we are asking here for ideas.

Some quick thoughts come to mind —

(1) Promote Hudson Park and our other parks as movie, commercial and tv sets and then generate revenues in the form of fees.

(2) How about a motorcycle rally? We have nearby car shows and art shows, but no motorcycle rallies come to mind. We have Harley Davidson in town and plenty of ‘hogs’. It might sound noisy and out of character for some, but it might offer some energy and attention to the south end and Hudson Park.

What say you? Please post any ideas you might have to use Hudson Park to generate additional revenue or other ideas to create secondary revenue streams.

What do you, TOS reader, recommend as an alternate revenue stream for Hudson Park?

  2. Concerts?
How bout using the stage as a venue for mainstream pop and rock? There are venues in NYC and upstate that host today’s music but nothing in Westchester. We currently use the stage for symphonic, oldies bands with small audiences. Skewing the music towards a younger, more popular generation could get the people to the park and bring awareness to New Rochelle. All day music festivals with a great lineup would be cool. It could be a nice mix of popular and local bands. Colleges have ParkFests in the spring and bring in great music of today. If the word is out, you’ll fill the seats, or the lawn for that matter. Just a thought.
