A man called the New Rochelle Fire Department to declare he was going to set his room on fire and promptly did so sending firefighters scrambling to respond to another fire at the New Rochelle Manor Home For Adults at 41 Lockwood Avenue.
Firefighters responded quickly and got control of the fire, mostly contents in the room. Residents were not evacuated on what is a cold night with temperatures in the thirties. No injuries were reported.
UPDATE: New Rochelle Police arrested the man who allegedly set the fire to a mattress in a room at the New Rochelle Manor Home For Adults at 41 Lockwood Avenue. Joseph Boan, 52, was charged with Wreckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree and Arson in the 2nd Degree after he is alleged to have blocked entry to his room using a mattress which he then set on fire. Boan, who is 5′ 8″ and weighs over 350 pounds, told police he was not satisfied with the service at the facility.
UPDATE: Journal News reports that there was one injury because the resident who set fire to his mattress was “injured” and taken to Sound Shore Medical Center for smoke inhalation and soon after released. Is that really an injury? I suppose.
Joseph Boan City Park
Again? Too bad someone called the fire department…Again! Joseph Boan would have been the hero of downtown new rochelle and had a park named after him..oh well, maybe next time.
Our public services are overstressed
This is a good example of why we cannot continue to develop anything without including the need for more city services in the costs. Only true cost evaluations should be used to decide whether the city is on the right track.
