Free enriching and entertaining programs for children are available during school vacation week at the New Rochelle Public Libraries. No need for kids to be bored – there is something for everyone!
On Monday, December 27 at 11:00 am, “The Klezmer Bunch” will be presented for children ages 3 – 7years at the Huguenot Children’s Library. Author Author Amalia Hoffman leads a rollicking fun,interactive storytelling session with puppets, musical instruments and movement, based on her award-winning book, The Klezmer Bunch. The story involves four traveling musicians who travel to play at a wedding – packing their goat and their instruments in a baby carriage, which takes off on its own! The program will be on a first-come, first-served to 25 –seat capacity of the Huguenot Children’s Library lower level.
At 1:00 pm, Kwanzaa Stories suitable for all ages will be performed at the main library. Everyone is invited to celebrate African American heritage, culture, family, and community, with a joyful program of stories spun by storyteller Jeani Miller. The event will take place in the Ossie Davis Theater; reservations are not required.
The popular team of “2 Hands 2 Learn” returns on Tuesday, December 28 for two sessions exploring Inuit Crafts and Nature. Children in grades 2 – 5 are invited to explore the culture of the Inuit people by creating a fabric wall hanging using traditional symbols, sampling foods and hearing the Legend of Sedna. The first session will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 am at the Huguenot Children’s Library, and is limited to 24 children grades 2 – 5, on a first-come/first-served, basis. The second session will take place from 1:00 – 2:00 pm in the main library’s meeting room and theater, and is limited to 30 children grades 2 – 5, on a first-come/first-served, basis beginning at 12:45 pm.
Wednesday December 29 is Family Film Day. Beginning with Toy Story 2, which will be shown at 11:00 am at the Huguenot Children’s Library. A favorite film all across the world, Toy Story 2 begins when Andy is away at summer camp. Woody is toynapped by Al, a greedy collector who needs Andy’s favorite toy to complete his Roundup Gang collection. Together with Jessie, Bullseye, and the Prospector, Woody is on his way to a museum where he’ll spend the rest of his life behind glass. It’s up to Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Rex, and Slinky Dog to rescue their friend and remind him what being a toy is all about. The G-rated film will be shown on a first-come, first-served to 25 –seat capacity of HCL’s ower level, beginning at 10:15 am.
The sequel, Toy Story 3, will be shown on the big screen of the Ossie Davis Theater at 1:00 pm Ossie Davis Theater, Main Library. The creative minds behind Pixar’s groundbreaking animated blockbusters invites everyone back inside the Toys’ delightful world for a heartwarming and hilarious experience never to be forgotten. Critics agreed that this is “the biggest, best, most exciting Toy Story of them all!” The G-rated film runs 103 minutes, and seating will be on a first-come/first-served, basis beginning at 12:45 pm.
One of the library’s favorite children’s performers, Jim McClenahan, returns on Thursday, December 30th for two live performances of Magic & Comedy. He’ll delight children of all ages and their parents, grandparents or care-giver with his zany humor, cool tricks and colorful, wacky antics. It’s a great way to end the year and look forward to the next!
