The weekend got off to a rousing start when a New Rochelle Fire Truck collided with a car in front of the Ryan Library at Iona College. About the same time, the Associated Press went national with the Iona nun embezzlement case which launched our little “Sister Susie” story from October into the stratosphere. Over 300 news organizations have run the story — and counting.
On the overnight, a pedestrian crossing North Avenue near Anderson was hit by a car.
At the same location, New Rochelle police arrested a man for disorderly conduct after getting into an altercation with a woman on the street
Talk of the Sound was monitoring the scanner overnight and got details as they were happening on a DWI incident on North Avenue and on into Coligini Avenue. The NRPD is treating all three sub-incidents as one big incident.
According to monitored police communications, shortly after 4 am a driver jumped the curb at in front of the North Avenue Food Mart & Deli at 570 North Avenue and crashed through the window on the North Avenue side. The driver left the scene. The same driver collided with a parked vehicle in front of 54 Coligni Avenue which is about a block away from the Food Mart on North Avenue, past Brook Street. New Rochelle police encountered the driver near that location, near the intersection of Coligni and Ferdinand Place. While dealing with the driver a second person began to argue with police and was then arrested for disorderly conduct. An ambulance was called after one the people involved complained of lacerations.
The New Rochelle police called the New Rochelle Fire Department because electrical lines were down. The fire department called Con Edison. The pole was badly damaged and removed from the scene and taken to the City’s street lighting yard at 22 Pelham road. The car driven into the store was impounded and taken away by Safeway Towing.

As if that were not enough mayhem for one night…
Earlier, on Friday around 8 pm, eight teens — 6 from Mount Vernon, 1 from Yonkers and 1 from Port Chester — were arrested after attacking and robbing people at 542 Pelham Road.

When a 23-year-old New Rochelle man stood outside the bus and began to hand money to a 38-year-old woman, Brady said, several teenagers surrounded them, beating the man to the ground and taking $280. Just for good measure, a person was badly injured at 675 Pelham Road last night.
About noon on Saturday near 666 Pelham Road, two cars collided with one car ending up flipped over. Several people involved in the collision were taken to Sound Shore Medical Center.
As this time is a little after 5 PM on Saturday evening so a word of warning — it’s been crazy out there this weekend so don’t drink and drive and be sure to watch your back.
