Press Release from New York State Police:
OIL DELIVERY MAN STEALS OVER $7000 WORTH OF BRONZE FROM CORTLANDT WATER DEPARTMENT
On 12/12/10, the Town of Cortlandt Water Department contacted the Cortlandt State Police barracks to advise that over the last several weeks, unknown subject(s) stole several hundred bronze water meters that they were storing in several separate containers at their Verplank facility.
After an investigation by the State Police BCI, a suspect identified as David Ranalli, 42, of 63 Cypress Street, Yonkers, was ultimately arrested at the Verplank facility attempting to steal more meters on 12/13/10 at approximately 2:30pm.
Ranalli would steal the meters while he was delivering oil to the water department and then take them to area scrap yards and collect money for the weight of the bronze. It is believed that over the last month, Ranalli obtained over $7000.00 cash for the stolen meters which aggregately weighed in at over several thousand pounds.
He was charged with grand larceny-4th degree and given an appearance ticket returnable in the Town of Cortlandt Justice Court on 12/27/10 at 9:00am. Further charges against Ranalli are pending with the investigation continuing. Any one with information regarding suspicious activities involving Ranalli are encouraged to contact the Cortlandt State Police BCI at 914-788-8044 or 914-737-7171.
