NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona College men’s basketball junior Mike Glover (Bronx, NY) earned MAAC Co-Player of the Week honors for his performance at No. 5 Syracuse on Saturday. Glover was honored with a conference player of the week honor for the third straight week.

Glover netted a game-high 25 points and 16 rebounds in the Gaels’ six-point loss to the Orange at the Carrier dome. He shot 9-for-11 (81.8%) from the field including four electrifying dunks. Glover recorded his sixth straight double-double, becoming the first Iona player to do so since Nakeia Miller’s six in a row to start the 2000-01 campaign.

The third straight Player of the Week honor for Glover marks the first time an Iona player has earned the distinction. Combined with sophomore Kyle Smyth’s (River Edge, NJ) accolade on Nov. 29, the Maroon & Gold has won four straight for the first time in program history. Glover is the sixth player since the 1986-87 campaign to win three straight MAAC Player of the Week honors, and the first since Niagara’s Charron Fisher in Dec. 2007 and Jan. 2008. Loyola’s Mike Powell (Feb. 1996) and Gerald Brown (Jan. 2007), Fairfield’s Darren Phillip, and Manhattan’s Luis Flores (Jan./Feb. 2003) are the other four players to accomplish the feat. Flores is the only one of the six to win more than three in a row with his five straight from Jan. 12 – Feb. 10, 2003.

Glover averages a MAAC-best 22.4 points while shooting 64.1% from the field. He is second in rebounding (10.2/g) and 10th in blocked shots (1.1/g). He is 14th in the nation in scoring, 23rd in rebounding and seventh in field goal percentage. His seven double-doubles in 11 games is sixth best in the nation.

Glover shared this week’s honor with Siena’s Ryan Rossiter who netted 27 points and had 12 boards vs. Florida Atlantic last week. Rossiter is second in the league in scoring and first in rebounding. The pair meets up for the first time when Iona travel to Siena to open up the New Year on Jan. 3 in Albany.

The Gaels snapped a seven-game winning streak at No. 5 Syracuse last Saturday and return to action at home against Vermont tomorrow (Dec. 22) night at 7:30 pm at the Hynes Center.
