I am a life long New Rochelle resident. I graduated from Iona in 1992. I don’t think anyone is going to stop the project and I’m not sure if they should. That being said I think if the plan goes forward the city should require either an underground passage or an elevated walkway. As it stands now, driving up or down North Ave near Iona is like an obstacle course. It’s just a matter of time before there is a real tragedy. A large underground passage like the Pelham train station would work but I’d rather see an elevated walkway with a digital billboard on either side. The billboards could be used for advertising local events, businesses, Iona news etc. Any thoughts?

Let embezzler Sister Susie pay for the walkway
And let Brother Liguori move into the neighborhood that surrounds his College and fish his floating belongings out of RAW SEWAGE every time it rains and the sewers reach capasity. It isnt the college’s burden to deal with, its the homeowners, the tax payers. Of course they dont contribute to New Rochelle- they dont LIVE here. They dont give a crap about affecting the quality of life in the area surrounding the school, they care about what lines their pockets. Ask “Sister sticky fingers”
Sounds great BUT ……………………………….
Sounds great as does the dorm project, BUT if Iona doesn’t want to pay anything to the city, the dorm and anything else they want to do should be DOA.
I’m sure Iona’s paying United Water for the water consumed on campus. Does the college pay anything towards the sewer district? I’m thinking no, but only because sewer charges come on my County Tax bill which Iona wouldn’t get. Its crazy that the college wants fire and police and ambulance services for free. I also went to a small liberal arts college and my school paid its fair share and so should Iona.
I’m actually a big fan of the college, but at the same time they’ve taken numerous properties off the tax rolls and therefore have increased my tax burden so I say tell them to go scratch!
We as a city should be tired of the college telling us what to do and not the other way around.
