New Rochelle – Something for Everyone!

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

New Rochelle is rich in history, and as a compliment to that history (I feel) encompasses a vast array of different architectural styles.

For instance, New Rochelle’s Historic district offers wonderful, older Victorian homes that can boast 6 bedrooms or more, and if you travel down to the Sutton Manor area or Rochelle Park, you will also find some larger Victorian homes or Colonials…. some beautifully renovated, or some just waiting for your personal touches. Years ago (in what seems like a far distant market), property prices were soaring, and people were seeking the less expensive ‘bargains’ in New Rochelle. Perhaps because the homes were older and mostly made of wood as opposed to brick or stucco, buyers hadn’t found the potential gems in these areas, and all of a sudden they were quite sought after. The prices went up proportionately, and sellers started to obtain wonderful prices for much older homes. Sales prices have somewhat softened in 2011, and there are still some wonderful bargains and great value to be found in these older yet distinguished areas. I was able to obtain multiple bids on a property on The Serpentine in November ’09, selling the property the first weekend as the buyers recognized it for the gem it was with its large property, large rooms, beamed living room with pocket doors and so much more not usually found in today’s newer homes.

If you like mid-century modern homes (split-levels) then Wykagyl Estates (near the Albert Leonard Middle School) might suit, or Maplewood which just happens to be near Lord & Taylor and the Lake Isle Country Club! Many of the residents so enjoy their homes, that they will build up, extend and stay amongst their friends and family alike. Mid-century modern homes can also be found in Pinebrook Estates which offers a park, or Bayberry Estates which offers a community pool. I have several friends in that community who have simply enlarged their homes as they love the area so much, and there are now a few McMansions after smaller homes were demolished there which sold at nice prices.

There are also many ranches and split-level homes in the area surrounding Davis Elementary school. The school itself has 2 playgrounds, features the high school varsity baseball field, and I have spent many, many fun-filled hours watching my sons play baseball there.

The estate areas of Forest Heights, Wykagyl Park, Paine Heights, and the Beechmont area feature Tudors, Colonials and some Mediterraneans with property sizes of usually around 0.39 of an acre. Whereas Larchmont Woods also features Tudors both large and small, and some very modern homes such as on Devonshire and you have the benefit of living in Larchmont Woods and of being able to walk to the Larchmont Train Station.

We boast a great waterfront, and offer newly built homes at great 2011 prices, and also stately older homes too.

In short, there is something for everyone in New Rochelle. We are close to New York City, and whether you are seeking a co-op, condo, single family home or multi-family, New Rochelle is definitely the Queen of the Sound!

New Rochelle is GREAT!
