WHITE PLAINS, NY (February 1, 2011) — The Legislative Chamber was the scene last night for the presentation of Miss Westchester and Miss Westchester Teen 2011 to the Westchester County Board of Legislators. The Honorable Judith Myers, Majority Whip (District 7), introduced Christina Deleon of Yorktown Heights, Miss Westchester 2011, and Samantha Gold of Armonk, Miss Westchester Teen 2011, to the esteemed body at a regular meeting of the Board.
“We are honored to be visited this evening by two incredible women,” said Myers. “Christina DeLeon’s mission is to draw attention to the school districts and the legal rights of student with disabilities.” DeLeon will graduate this Spring from SUNY Old Westbury with a dual Bachelors Degree in Childhood Education and Special Education and will pursue her Masters Degree in Education at Mercy College this Fall.
“We are also joined tonight by Samantha Gold,” continued Myers. “She hopes that in her year of service, she will proudly represent Westchester County with confidence and grace and hopes to make a positive difference in the lives of others.” Gold is a senior at Byram Hills High School and is looking forward to attending college this Fall.
The Honorable Kenneth Jenkins, Chairman (District 16), welcomed them saying, “I know we’re all looking forward to seeing the great work that you will continue to do in representing Westchester County, and doing it well.”
Both titleholders were given the opportunity to speak briefly. “Thank you so much for having us here this evening,” said DeLeon. “It is an honor to be here amongst you all and as a future educator in this county, I want to thank you for the wonderful job you’re all doing. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for all of us.”
Gold added, “This is very exciting and all very new to me. This is a big experience for me and I appreciate it very much. Thank you.”
DeLeon and Gold are slated to meet with the Westchester Delegation in Albany and be introduced on the floor of the State Assembly later this Spring.
