Main Steet Boxing Persevering Through Make-Up Week

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

The Main Street Boxing Team confronts a rather demanding week as a result of weather makeups and scheduling irregularities in the New York Golden Gloves Tournament. While not having any of its fighters placed on Monday’s Mount Vernon card, the reminder of the week distributes the peripatetic club throughout New York City.
Adam Ricciardi impressively bested Isiah Seijo of Alpha Omega Gym on Tuesday night via the decision route in a 165 lb Novice Division bout. Shortly after the opening bell, Ricciardi bloodied Seijo’s nose and dictated the fight afterward. According to Head Coach Ryan O’Leary, Ricciardi showed strong punching “with a stiff jab. He worked the whole time, tiring a bit at the end. He kept Seijo off balance with the jab. He scored with some big right hands. It was rather one-sided.” Earlier in the night, Kevin Martin was awarded a walkover when his opponent in the 165 lb. Novice Division tipped the scales eight pounds over the limit. Martin proceeded to the next round and his opponent to the nearest Taco Bell.
Just as one giveth, so can one taketh away. Henry Kusjanovic also had his 165 lb. Novice Division bout cancelled on two separate occasions. The scheduling issues created havoc with Henry’s work schedule and his boss gave him an ultimatum. Without having thrown a punch, Kusjanovic exited the tournament to save his job.
The remainder of the week’s schedule is as follows:

Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Manhattanville Community Center, 530 W 133rd St, Manhattan:
Malla Fauntin 201+ lb. Novice Division
Dwayne July 201+ lb. Novice Division

Friday, February 11, 2011 at Tottenville High School, 100 Luten Ave, Staten Island
Kristjan Dushaj 165 lb. Open Division
Kevin Martin 165 lb Novice Division
Adam Ricciardi 165 lb Novice Division
