Rico Johnson, alleged accomplice in the Kevin Williams murder, was released from custody today after he was bonded out. Johnson was one of two people arrested and charged for hindering prosecution in the first degree and tampering with physical evidence for helping Laurell Smith, the alleged murderer, hide the murder weapon. Also arrested on similar charges to Johnson was Krista Leggieri.
The Westchester County District Attorney charged Rico Johnson as follows:
Rico Johnson (DOB 03/11/91) of 311 North Avenue, New Rochelle, New York with:
one count of Hindering Prosecution in the First Degree, a class “D” Felony,
one count of Hindering Prosecution in the Second Degree, a class “E” Felony,
one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence, a class “E” Felony.
Kevin Williams was stabbed to death near 270 North Avenue on September 18th, 2010.
Council Member Barry Fertel who has an office at 270 North Avenue recently described the area around his building as “safe” in an interview with Bob Marrone on WVOX. In addition to the Williams murder last fall, a woman was hacked to death with a machete. There has also a drug overdose
assaults, and other incidents within the immediate area.
