New Rochelle City Council Approves Gordon Bell and Gregory Merchant for IDA Board
The City Council of New Rochelle voted unanimously Tuesday to reappoint Gordon P. Bell to the New Rochelle Industrial Development Agency for another 3 year term. Bell has served on the IDA since 2007.
The City Council voted on a party line vote to appoint Gregory A. Merchant to the IDA Board. Merchant’s wife Lianne was elected last May to the City School District of New Rochelle Board of Education. The Republicans had put forward attorney John Verni for the IDA.
During the vote City Council Member Richard St. Paul expressed his desire that, in the future, the City Council be given the opportunity to interview candidates for the IDA Board in light of the important impact the IDA has on local taxes. St. Paul also noted that the majority Democrats routinely reject IDA candidates supported by the Republicans as was the case with Verni again on Tuesday.
