Five charged with gun possession after car chase

YONKERS – Five people have been charged with illegal gun possession and a sixth was charged with reckless endangerment following incidents early Saturday, March 19.

Yonkers City Police responded to Nepperhan Avenue and Elm Street on a report of shots fired. A man was seen firing several shots toward a group of people in front of 3 Schroeder Street. No victims were located and the suspect fled on food.

While looking for him, police spotted a car speeding on Nepperhan Avenue. When they stopped it, the front seat passenger, later identified as Rachon Carey, 34, of Yonkers, got out of the car and tried to walk away while clutching his waistband. Four others in the vehicle, including the driver, Andrew Rhett, 30, of New Rochelle, stayed in the car, but they drove off as police patted down Carey.

As officers gave chase, they saw the occupants throwing two guns and a cell phone from the car. They were recovered.

During the chase, another car pulled in front of the police car in an effort to cut it off. That car was stopped and officers found Carey inside as a passenger. He was arrested along with the driver, Eric Brown, 25, of New Rochelle, who was charged with reckless endangerment and DWI.

When the car drove through New Rochelle, it eventually stopped and the driver, Rhett, was Tasered by a New Rochelle police officer and taken into custody by Yonkers Police. The three other men in the car, Willie Dawson, 33, Sion Young, 19, both of New Rochelle, and Mikail Allen, 25, who reported being homeless, were each charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
