Council Member Lou Trangucci explained plans to build a diner in the Home Depot parking lot. The diner would be about 2/3rds the size of the old Thruway diner. The image below shows a satellite photo where the Thruway Diner has been cropped out and placed on top of the Home Deport parking lot. The Home Depot is required to have a certain number of spaces per square foot of retails space and is considering opening up spaces at the other end of the lot to make room for the diner. What do you think? Is this a good idea or not?

Lots of questions, very little information
Why would we want to further restrict parking by taking away spots? Home Dopey could make more parking spaces by doing away with the double lines between each space too, but who benefits? Certainly not the customer who’s now bound to get dings in their cars.
What the status of the abatement on the property? Did it run its course already or are there years left and what happens to this parcel? Are the developers looking for city hand outs?
Lots of questions, very little information, but I wouldn’t think this is the best idea in the world unless the same number of parking spaces can be preserved for the Home Depot lot.

diner
Kyle – I will be easy on you because it seems you are still from the reactionary crowd of the old Macy’s and Bloomies days.
Things do change – get over it.
The old diner drew crowds from off of #95. It was a roadside icon.
Putting it downtown would hide it, you would also have to knock out a few buildings and there is no real parking for a diner crowd.
Get Over This
Get over what? The idea that we ignore the largest street in downtown? You’d rather draw truckers and sketchy people off the highway than cater to current residents? I don’t see many people going to a diner in the parking lot of Home Depot other than drunk fools in the middle of the night or others using it as a pit stop in the middle of the day.
And don’t tell me that having a diner off I95 will help draw people to New Rochelle because I can see a stupid answer like that coming a mile away. Draw them to what? Where are they going to go after they finish their lovely meal in the hardware store parking lot? There’s nothing this place has to offer visitors. You realize what street they would be traveling down if they dared to enter this war zone of a downtown we have.
If there’s enough parking for a Chinese buffet then there’s parking for a diner on Main.
Give me a break with that “things change” line. Yea, in case you haven’t noticed, things changed for the worse and you seem to be ok with that. You accept it like everyone else accepts the fact that Main Street looks like the South Bronx.
I don’t think I’ve seen 1 where the current is better than the o
Things have changed for the worse and all you need look at are the lovely current and past photos/postcards Bridget’s been entertaining us with for the last 6 months or so. I don’t think I’ve seen 1 where the current is better than the old which says to me somewhere and at somepoint the city really took a wrong turn.
Diner on Home Depot lot
I understand the Main Street opinion already voiced but I like the idea of a diner in that area. I miss the Thruway Diner. It was well placed and convenient.
We should do it!
Diner
I absolutely think that a Diner is a great idea in that location!
MSD: Main Street’s Disease
What is wrong with Main Street? Does it have a disease? It seems that every time you hear of a new business/restaurant opening up in New Rochelle it makes sure to stay away from Main Street. We’d rather open new establishments down small side streets or Home Depot parking lots? Real classy. The numerous empty corner spaces on each block of Main Street would make for a great, classic diner spot but I guess we’re saving those spaces for more dollar stores and churches.
Another FAIL. Can’t say I’m surprised.
