As part of a statewide initiative, the New Rochelle Police Department will participate in Operation Safe Stop on Wednesday, March 30 from 7 am to 4 pm. NRPD officers will target violators throughout the city who fail to stop for stopped school buses.

The purpose of this program is to increase motorist awareness of child safety, and to be aware of the seriousness of failing to stop for the stopped school busses when children are embarking and disembarking and crossing in front of the buses.

This is the third year the City has participated in Operation Safe Stop, part of the Governor’s Traffic Safety STEP grant program. STEP grant funding allows local agencies to participate in selected enforcement programs during the year, including speed enforcement, aggressive driver, stop sign violations and failure to stop for stopped school buses.
