Valerie Gomez, 50, Great Friend to Talk of the Sound, Dies After Brief Illness

Written By: Robert Cox

ValerieGomezIt is with profound sadness that Talk of the Sound is reporting that Valerie Gomez has died after a brief illness.

Valerie was a generous, kind and caring person. I have known Valerie since I was 3-years old. We grew up together first on Stephens Drive in Tarrytown, NY and then in Irvington, NY when both our families moved there. Both our families were members of the Ardsley Country Club. In recent years, Valerie was especially kind to my children when we visited Playland where she worked for many years and more recently when she worked in New Rochelle for Regal Cinemas. After she left Regal Cinemas she worked with me on various Talk of the Sound projects. She will be missed.

Her obituary is available on the Edwards-Dowdle funeral home.

Valerie Anne Gomez of Irvington, NY died suddenly after a short illness on March 31, 2011. She was 50 years old. Valerie was the loving daughter of Dr. Alfred and Maureen Gomez. She was a sister to Alfred, Catherine, Laura and Maureen and the adoring Aunt to Brandon, Caitlyn, Matthew and A.J., also survived by many Aunts and Uncles. Valerie was a lifelong Irvington resident and attended Irvington Schools. She graduated from Iona College. Valerie worked for many years at Playland and recently left Regal Entertainment where she was a promotions and marketing specialist. Valerie enjoyed cooking, photography and the love of her family, niece and nephews and many friends.

Mass of the Resurrection 10AM Monday April 4, 2011, Immaculate Conception Church, Irvington, NY

Visiting 2-4 and 7-9PM Sunday, Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home
Memorial Contributions to St. Johns Riverside Hospital. 967 North Broadway Yonkers, NY 10701

UPDATE: I attended the wake in Dobbs Ferry this evening. There was a very large turnout for both viewings which was gratifying to the family, all of whom stood in the receiving line for hours. The cause of death was a Pulmonary embolism.

I have had the pleasure to know Valerie for the last few years. She was kind, considerate and alway generous making donations from the cinema for the Memorial Day Parade and other Veterans events. I feel bad about her passing and she will be missed. May God Bless her and hold her close to him.
