It is shaping up as another banner week for the New Rochelle school district, one of the most crime-laden school districts in Westchester County.
Former New Rochelle District Employee Vito Costa will be sentenced today in White Plains as part of his guilty plea last April on charges related to working a no-show job for the Buildings and Grounds Department. Despite pleading guilty to working a no-show job, after investigators from the District Attorney’s office followed him around for a month watching him do everything but show up for work in New Rochelle, no supervisors were ever charged by the DA or terminated by the District.
New Rochelle High School students Jermaine McCleod and Rashad Simpson will be arraigned on Friday in Westchester County Court. McCleod has been in the Westchester County Jail since his arrest on February 9th but was moved into the general population this week after a grand jury indicted him and Simpson on charges of attempted armed robbery last Friday.

John Raye, a Cleaner in the Buildings and Ground Department was terminated officially by the Board of Education last night under Resolution No. 11-296-12. No official reason was given but Raye had been in trouble previously due to drug issues.
Jose Martinez had another appearance date on Monday related to charges that he sexually molested a fourteen-year old boy for months, in his office, at Isaac E. Young Middle School.
An 18-year old New Rochelle High School student appeared in New Rochelle City Court to face the judge; as she may be treated as a minor Talk of the Sound will not disclose further information about the case at this time.
In related news, Schools Superintendent Richard Organisciak announced at last night’s Board of Education meeting at Trinity School that 27 seniors at New Rochelle High School were accepted into Ivy League colleges.
