So Much For Bipartisanship, New Rochelle Democrats Gerrymander New Rochelle GOP Out of Existence

Written By: Robert Cox

DemRedistrictingPlan2011 455For all intensive purposes the Democrats have killed off the Republican Party in New Rochelle by grouping almost every Republican area in New Rochelle into one District 2 leaving Council Member Al Tarantino as the last Republican standing. With a 6-1 Majority on City Council, the Democrats will not only win every vote but will be able to take on debt without any Republican opposition. Tarantino will be unable to get a second to any motion for any reason that is not already supported by the Democrats.

The Democrats held a press availability at City Hall but did not notify Talk of the Sound. As is now Bramson policy, the Democrats are using New Rochelle Patch as their designated media outlet as part of an ongoing effort to combat the rise of Talk of the Sound into the dominant media outlet in New Rochelle.

Republicans Council Member Richard St. Paul has responded.

Republicans Reject New Rochelle Democrat City Council Members Draft Redistricting Plan

Once again the Democratic majority Council members missed the constitutional mark for redistricting. The draft plan is identical to the draft plan submitted after the 2000 census that essentially disenfranchised minority (African-American) voters for political gain. This plan is no different as it now seeks to dilute the voting power of the Latino population, decrease the total African-American vote in District 3 and violate the compactness clause under the New York State Constitution. The results of this plan if adopted is likely to end up the same way the last redistricting plan ended; with a federal judge ordering the City to redraw the district lines in accordance with the Federal and State Constitution.” Einstein once said that the definition of Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The tack in which the Democratic majority Council members approach the redistricting process in indicative of a lack of seriousness and integrity for the redistricting process.

  1. This Triggers an Additional 7% Tax increase Minimum!
Unfortunately, the gerrymandering of our disticts will remove any and all sense of checks and balance’s from an already out of control council. If democratic control goes to 5-2 or 6-1 there will be nothing to stop bonding of the ill conceived moving of the city yard. That alone will cost you, the taxpayer, an additional 7% for 20 years or so. Considering we won’t have the same offset of the Avalon advance money anymore, and the addition of the millions it will cost the city to subsidize more ill conceived projects like Echo Bay, you can count on 12 to 16% yearly tax increases for the next decade. That doesn’t even take into account the school tax increases in response to the added enrollment, GreeNR costs, aging infrastructure upgrades, United Water rate hikes, Mandated Sewage Plant upgrades (700.00/year alone). So much for fairness in representation. The East End and Sunhaven have had zero representation for the last 10 years , so i guess, why should they start now.

    1. You are a bit low.
How did you think tax and spend Bramson was going to fund GreeNR? He will now get the support he needs to enter into a new MOU with Capelli: he will raise taxes to replace infrastructure so new high rise development can continue in the downtown; and he will have the funds he needs to relocate the city yard and give away valuable real estate to Forest City.

Was anyone stupid enough to think GreeNR or redistricting was about the people? It was about the Bramson regime gaining more power.

  2. So we go back to the Michael Boyle
We go back to the Michael Boyle days where by the Democrats win by a 6-1 majority rather than then winning by a 4-3 majority with a lot of St. Paul posturing and Strome crick necking while Bramson tirades.
What is needed in local government is that people vote for checks and balances not party line because we are all being killed by Police/Fire Pensions and City Employee salary and benefits.
Without real sales tax to offset and the psuedo development with tax abatements the schmoes getting on the train every day are being taxed out of New Rochelle. When you factor in the HS is really marginal you wonder except for the 30 minute commute what anybody is doing wanting to live here.
Certainly its not the services provided they will having us pay per flush and play per plow to keep it all going. They filled Potholes 1 a day for 8 weeks they will pull up in front of your home looking for a payment to drop some asphalt in soon. New Rochelle is truly done!

  3. Noam bad boy
Why is it that Noam and crew did not notify Talk of the sound? Because he is running like a baby.He cannot control the questions being asked of him by talk of the sound. He calls patch his baby because he can control them. Why Noam, did you not post the press conference on your web page? Why not a news blast noam. This goes to show that you our Mayor are out of touch with most people in New Rochelle it’s time for a change Vote them all out in 2011.

    1. I always found it funny that
I always found it funny that Bramson won’t allow people to post comments on his website nor will he take the time to address their concerns. Then, he has the audacity to condemn this site when at least it’s founder gave people an opportunity to be heard. If Bramson doesn’t agree with what is said here, he can always respond to it with facts to the contrary.
