New Rochelle Dirtbags Opening Day 2011

Spring is officially here as the New Rochelle Dirtbags open their second season in the Westchester/Rockland Wood Bat League this Sunday against the Danbury Barons of Connecticut. Come out to Manhattanville College and see New Rochelle’s very own semi-pro/collegiate wood bat team kick off their 2011 season.

The Dirtbags are comprised of Westechester’s top local talent, including New Rochelle High School graduates Jeff Sosis, Greg Valvano, Justin Sherman, Tom O’Neill, Iona Prep alumni Justin Lewis and current Divsion 1 Iona College Gaels pitcher Pete Ladis.

Following their inaugural season in the league, the ‘Bags have high hopes for the upcoming Summer. “We’ve really rebuilt ourselves from the ground up. Throughout the offseason we were able to bring in some of the top talent in the area,” states Player/Manager Jeff Sosis.

The 2011 Dirtbags will see a large number of core returners along with a new line of accomplished collegiate ballplayers looking to contribute right way. According to Player/Manager Greg Valvano, “We have all the right guys to really make an impact this year. Everyone on the squad is excited to finally get out there and see what we can do together as a team.”

Admission is free. First pitch of the Sunday doubleheader is slated for 2:00pm at the Manhattanville College baseball field in Purchase NY. Game two will begin shortly after the conclusion of game one at 5:00pm. Be sure to check out the Official 2011 Dirtbags Season Schedule.
