Ivar Hyden announced today that he is seeking the Democratic nomination for city council in New Rochelle’s district 4. “I’ve lived in district 4 for over 16 years and have had a business in the downtown section of the district for over 20 years. I want to use my experience and knowledge of the issues to bring about positive change.
“We need independent thinking and a cooperative spirit to solve our city’s problems”, Hyden stated.
Hyden has been the chairman of the New Rochelle Municipal Art Commission for the past six years, and is on several other boards and committees including the Library’s Strategic Planning Committee.
“This city is unique in its geography, diversity of population, and proximity to New York City and has all of the ingredients needed to blossom again into the Queen City of the Sound. In this difficult economic climate, it is important that we pursue
sensible, innovative development that creates new revenue streams while protecting our neighborhoods and taxpayers.
Hyden calls himself a “reluctant politician” and stated that he has no political ambitions beyond New Rochelle City Council.
“I have deep roots in this community”, Hyden stated, “my wife Diane is a New Rochelle girl. We have three grown sons and currently six nieces and nephews in the school system. I am a tax-paying home owner, artist and businessman. I want to be a positive voice on city council and bring creative solutions to problems without regard to politics”.
