Pediatrician, Sister of Famed New York Times Reporter Adam Nagourney, Implicated in Theft of Political Lawn Signs in New Rochelle School Board Race

Written By: Robert Cox

BethNagourneyDr. Beth Nagourney, a medical doctor specializing in perinatal medicine & neonatal medicine and pediatrics at Jacobi Medical Center and the sister of famed New York Times political reporter Adam Nagourney received a visit from the New Rochelle Police Department the day before the recent school board election.

New Rochelle Police Detective Jason Buono and New Rochelle Police Sergeant Barry Johnson informed Dr. Nagourney that a police report had been filed concerning the operator of a minivan with New York State license plate DEK-7801. Dr. Nagourney is the registered owner of a “light blue” (South Pacific Pearl) Toyota Sienna minivan with New York State license plate DEK-7801. Police informed Nagourney that a witness filed a report of a woman driving her vehicle was observed to have stopped her vehicle in front of the Rose Hill Nursery on Webster Avenue, that two kids exited the vehicle and removed a “Cox for Board of Education” campaign lawn sign from the property in front of the nursery.

The police officers advised Nagourney of the laws pertaining to larceny and possession of stolen property. Dr. Nagourney, whose front yard was festooned with campaign signs supporting two Cox opponents, claimed to have no knowledge of the missing signs nor whether her car was used to remove signs.

In response to a request for comment for this article, Dr. Nagourney provided the following reply.

Dear Mr. Cox –

Thank you for the heads up. There has already been a police investigation. If you would like any further information, please contact the New Rochelle Police Department.

Neighbors in the Forest Heights neighborhood said they were not surprised to hear the police had questioned Nagourney over lawn sign stealing.

“She is very political, very aggressive,” said one neighbor who asked not to be identified. “It does not surprise me one bit that she would stoop to something like that”.

Throughout the recent school board election, there were numerous incidents of lawn sign stealing, primarily targeting signs supporting me (Robert Cox) in the election for a seat on the New Rochelle Board of Education. These incidents occurred all over town ranging from Sunhaven to Highland Park to Mount Joy and other points in between. In several instances the culprits were observed in the act and chased by home owners and in two cases police reports were filed.

A particular battleground location was the corner of Webster and Aberfoyle Road on property owned by the Rose Hill Nursery which had given permission to display Cox campaign lawn signs. The campaign received a number of reports of a “light blue minivan” cruising down Webster Avenue removing signs from private property in the area between Eastchester Road and the Hutchison River Parkway. The word went among supporters to keep an eye out for the culprit.

Beth nagourneyOn the evening of Sunday May 15th, a Cox campaign supporter spotted a light blue minivan idling on the corner of Webster and Aberfoyle. Two kids jumped out of the van and began pulling at a “Cox” lawn sign and ripped it out of the ground. The witness pulled over next to the minivan and shouted at the kids who immediately jumped back in the van. A few moments later the driver of the minivan returned to the same corner. The kids hopped out of the minivan, grabbed the sign and tossed it into the vehicle.

The witness recorded the make and model of the vehicle and the license plate and filed a complaint with the New Rochelle police department which followed up on the complaint the next day. According to the witness, the woman driving the vehicle, a middle-aged woman with blonde hair, looked similar to the woman in the two photos of Dr. Nagourney above.

An inspection of Webster Avenue later that evening revealed that all of the “Cox” signs on Webster between Eastchester Road and the Hutch had been removed.

  1. sad commentary on our city
Has it become so politically necessary to go to these lengths to win school board elections? To me, the answer is to use every means possible in the future to promote the candidacy of decent, honest candidates. Pulling signs up may help defeat a candidate in the present but the voters will not be fooled in the long run. Those of us who believe in democracy must not, and will not, give up. We deserve elected officials who can and will campaign fairly.

    1. Save your ramlbings for Patch!
Nobody here wants to read your ramblings. If you have a point make it, but there’s no need for name calling, that’s childish and I wouldn’t even consider writing what I’m now thinking about you!

Let’s all hope that the citizens of New Rochelle can see that you and your Democratic buddies are running this city into the ground by giving away millions to developers that could care less about New Rochelle so long as they get there tax breaks; tax breaks that the rest of the city pays for because these developments have kids that go to our schools and they need police and fire and garbage (to name a few) services.

And as far I can see, the city’s infrastructure is crumbling with absolutely NO plans to allocate money in order to fix anything. Hell the city can’t even cut the grass or get rid of the geese at City Park, yet they tout the millions being spent there and I happen to think the park will be nice for awhile and then after years of neglect, we’ll be right back where we started.

This year’s budget was balanced with the one-shot infusion of millions from the sale of Avalon I plus bonding/borrowing millions more for pension costs. The Avalon money isn’t recurring which is why Mayor Bramson wants to charge everyone 3% on all utility bills; phone, cable, Con Ed and water. This is going to cost everyone hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on an annual basis.

So if that’s the city you want for yourself and kids, great but I don’t see how anyone who looks at the facts of the current state of the affairs in New Rochelle can think its anything but a disaster waiting to happen.

One last thought, if any of you thought Gov. Cuomo’s tax cap might help us out, your wrong because the cap can be overridden with 60% of the council vote (that’s 3 out of 5 council members) and that’s not much of a hurdle to overcome with Fertel, Sussman & Rice consistently voting the Democratic line to keep the status quo that’s already drained the city’s coffers.

And remember, New Rochelle’s high property taxes are killing the value of your home. And let’s not compare our taxes to that of Eastchester, Scarsdale or Larchmont as those towns offer a whole lot more without all the BS in between.

  2. politics as usual in New Ro
Win any way you can in New Ro.Steal signs, keep holding elections until things go your way, register and drive voters to polls, etc….
Its a disgrace for anyone, let alone a Doctor to behave like this, and to have her kids do the dirty work, well I guess thats how losers teach their offspring to grow up and be like them.Well some people feel they are above the law,I say book them on theft and trespass, impound the car and teach this exceptional citizen laws are for all, even Noams pals arent above them.Except when the Court Clerk slammed his car into the pole drunk at Stratton and Pinebrook last year(and his drunk girlfriend? that was behind him was allowed to drive him away from the scene). That was truly a coverup that never came out.Typical goings on in Democratic New Ro.

    1. Care to elaborate?
“the Court Clerk slammed his car into the pole drunk at Stratton and Pinebrook last year (and his drunk girlfriend? that was behind him was allowed to drive him away from the scene).”

Setting aside that the person I believe you are referring to is a Republican, this a serious matter, if accurate.

What can you tell us about this matter.

  3. LOSER
What a joke what is she Noam’s doctor they live right down the street from each other.

  4. Dr. Wacko
If it’s true that Dr. Beth Ann Nagourney had a role in this, it is a rather bizarre act that should make the medical board question her fitness to practice and/or teach.

  5. Infantile
Great lesson in Democracy for her kids:

“Ok honey, now, wait till the next car passes, and run really, really fast across the street, grab that persons sign, rip it out of the ground and run back here to the car as fast as you can.
Now hurry up ’cause we’ve got to get home and get your history homework assignment finished tonight about the Founding Documents.”

If you weren’t a very serious threat to this crowd, they would have been helping you make the signs.

Wear it as a badge of honor.

  6. How low can you get
How low can you get? to have your kids do your dirty work. If they were her kids a call to CPS should be made as the act is unfit of a mother

    1. witness see’s stolen lawn signs, and no one arrested
      So let’s get this right.
a witness report’s a licens plate, a disciption of kid’s and the driver, and no one is charged.
Even after other repoert’s are filled by other people about the same minivan all over town?????

Now what would of happened if that was Bramson or any other city elect official running for office.

What does it take to press charges D.N,A.

This city police dept schuld be ASHAMEND of it self .
This a toal violation of right’s (constitutional right’s)

Bob we all see what is going on and that’s why
you have to keep it up ,you and we, are all letting them know the ther bull and blind eyes to what they are getting cought at ,are comming to an
      end!!
And for that doctor, shame on you too…
What an example you are to your children.
I can only imagine what’s next for them with the example you have tought them ,May it will be
allright to cheat on Exams or flood a school election voter’s box , Don’tFORGET THE SEED’S we plant as parent’s…..now you can live with the fruit!!!!!

Commisioner Carol what is your comment on this??
