Rye City Councilwoman Suzanna Keith announced today that she is a candidate for Westchester County Legislator in District 7, which encompasses the City of Rye, Village of Larchmont, Town of Mamaroneck, Village of Mamaroneck and parts of New Rochelle and Harrison.
“The message of less government spending, lower property taxes, and open government has long been ignored. The residents of this district pay the highest property taxes in the country and they deserve a legislator who will make tax relief a priority.”
Keith established a strong record as a fiscal watchdog and for keeping taxes low, while on the Rye City Council. In her first year, she was named Deputy Mayor-evidence of her leadership skills and ability to work with colleagues. “I am running because I believe that many of the problematic financial issues we face in our communities are created by the County and the State. My goal as County Legislator is to make a difference in the long-term financial sustainability of our community, by bringing an independent voice to our County Legislature to stop reckless spending while lobbying our State for needed reduction in healthcare cost, pension reform and mandate relief”.
As council member, Keith pushed for a zero tax increase. Elected in 2009, she serves liaison to the Traffic & Pedestrian Safety Committee; liaison to the Joint Pedestrian Safety Committee with the Board of Education; and introduced the Rye Shared Roadways and Sustainability Committees both bi-partisan teams working on long term plans to improve the community’s quality of life.
Keith is well known as an active community volunteer. She raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for family health care and domestic violence as the New York League Fundraising Manager; and she led the Twig Organization out of the United Hospital bankruptcy, smoothly transitioned it to its new status as The Twig, Inc. She also served on Rye Playland Commission, Midland PTO (as Co-President) and helped found the Environmental Advocacy group of Rye. Most recently, she helped reactivate the Not for Profit Council which allows local organizations to collaborate on their best community contributions and is a volunteer and member of the League of Women Voters.
She has been a Westchester County resident for over 16 years, first living in Larchmont and then settling in Rye with Andrew, her husband of 17 years. They have three children who attend Rye public schools and are members of Resurrection Parish. Suzanna graduated from Bryn Mawr College and earned her MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business. She currently works in advertising sales and formerly ran her own brand marketing consulting firm.
