Students ages 10 – 17 years of age have a choice of great workshops to keep them engaged and enriched this summer, as the New Rochelle Public Library again offers a slate of free programs designed especially for and by teens and tweens. These workshops are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning 15 minutes before each session, and are made possible by the Friends of the Library and the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation.

Jewelry-Making Workshops will take place on six Mondays, July 11 – August 15, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm, under the expert guidance of Melanie Rose, the owner of Beadz based in Larchmont. Each week students (both girls and boys) will be introduced to new beading techniques, various stringing materials and tons of interesting and beautiful beads, charms and pendants.  Each class will feature a new project.

Anthony Wooden returns to the library to give another phenomenal 6-session course in traditional African Dance and Drums, Tuesdays, July 5 – August 9, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. All participants will be invited to dance in the culminating performance on the stage of the Ossie Davis Theater, on Tuesday, August 9th at 7:00 pm.

Anime and Gamers Clubs: The library’s Cool Culture Wednesdays continue in the summer, with Anime and Manga Club meetings on alternating Wednesdays, July 6 – August 10, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with Gamers Garrison (open video, card and RP games).
An additional program for teens and adults, Needlework Workshop, meets on Thursdays, July 7, 14, 21 and 28, 10:30 – 12 noon. Beginners and intermediates can start and complete a crochet or knitting project with expert help from Rosalie Hollingsworth and Charlotte Kastenbaum.
