Joint statement by the Independent Democratic Conference, Senators Jeffrey D. Klein, (D-Bronx/ Westchester), Diane Savino. (D-Staten Island/ Brooklyn), David Valesky, (D-Oneida), and David Carlucci, (D-Rockland/ Orange):
“We are encouraged that many of the items included in the Independent Democratic Conference’s ethics reform proposal are also part of The Clean Up Albany Act of 2011. These include: Having a watchdog system that doesn’t hinge on having legislators sit in judgment of each other; expanding disclosure requirements for outside income and business interests; and stripping public pensions from those who violate the public’s trust. While we reserve final judgment on this measure until we are able to read the bill’s language, this seems to be a solid step forward in restoring trust in our state government.”
