In observance of the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2011, the City of New Rochelle will hold a candlelight remembrance ceremony on Sunday, September 11 at 8 PM on the front lawn of City Hall. All are invited.

The 10th anniversary commemoration will begin with a solemn march at 7 PM starting at the Armory Building at 270 Main Street. In the aftermath of September 11, the Armory was used as a community collection center for supplies donated by residents to the relief efforts at Ground Zero. After a brief ceremony, a procession of police, fire and drum corps will make its way from the Armory to City Hall via Huguenot Street and North Avenue. All are invited to join the march and will be given flags to carry in honor of those lost in the tragedy.

The September 11 memorial event is coordinated by the Police and Fire Departments, the Offices of the Mayor and City Manager, and the United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association. For more information and participation, contact Peter Parente at (914) 557-5556, Communications Manager Kathy Gilwit at (914) 654-2117 or the Mayor’s Office at (914) 654-2150.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Council Chamber of City Hall.
