9/11 “We Remember” Ten Years Later

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

The UVMPA,United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association, the City of New Rochelle, NRPD and New Rochelle Fire Department have brought a somber and respectful site to the center of our City.

2,977 American Flags were meticulously placed blanketing the lawn of City Hall in New Rochelle. Each flag represents a soul lost in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center on 9/11 2001.

Close to one hundred volunteers humbly and readily honored each life lost, positioning flags, joining together and reflecting all the sacrifices that our great country has had to make. “We Remember” is the powerful message being sent to every person, car or truck that passes by. Boy Scout troops and leaders from across New Rochelle gathered to give up free time, put their uniforms on and prove that their contributions to the community are invaluable. Numerous friends, family and neighbors shared their unmarred dedication to changing the face of our government center to proudly display our undying patriotism for the next 30 days. Generosity poured in from New Rochelle Chevrolet who donated the rental equipment to project two beams of light into the heavens, symbolizing the twin towers.

Peter Parente, President of the United Veterans and organizer of the 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony works closely with Kathy Gilwit, NRPD Commissioner Carroll and NRFD Fire Chief DiMeglio to host a Candlelight Ceremony on the front lawn of City Hall on September 11th.

Please join us on the front lawn of City Hall located at 515 North Avenue in New Rochelle on September 11th at 8:00 PM. Unite in remembering those lost on that tragic day.
