Smoky Kitchen Fire Shuts Down McDonald’s on East Main Street in New Rochelle

Written By: Robert Cox

A smoky kitchen fire this morning has shut down the McDonald’s restaurant at 270 Main Street. Maintenance crews hired by the franchisee are on the scene and working to try and re-open the restaurant. There is no sign up indicating the restaurant is closed. People were seen within the last hour turning their cars into the parking lot, driving around confused and leaving.

The call came in to the New Rochelle Fire Department at 8:59 AM. Responding was Ladder 11, 12 and Engine 21, 22, 23. Ladder 13 and Engine 25 relocated to Station 1. Ladder 12 was available today because 29 firefighters were on duty.

Although one firefighter fell, no firefighters were injured at the scene.

All equipment was back in service by 10:03 AM.

Angelica Rangel, First Assistant at the McDonald’s at 720 North Avenue, owned by the same franchisee tells Talk of the Sound that no one was hurt at the Main Street location

“We’re trying to open today”, said Rangel.

Asked about putting up signs indicating that the location is closed until further notice, Rangel said they will have signs up soon.

After the fire was put out, Con Edison shut off the gas. The Westchester County Healthy Department closed down the restaurant due to the fire.
