Jorge RonJorge Ron, a math teacher at Isaac E. Young Middle School in New Rochelle, NY was escorted from the building earlier today after allegedly striking a student, sources tell Talk of the Sound.

“He smacked her in the face”, said one source who asked not to be identified.

Talk of the Sound has learned that sometime this morning a female student went to the school nurse and reported that she had been hit by a teacher. The teacher was later told to leave the building. He was followed by school security guards who observed him to make sure he left the building and the campus. The police were not called to the scene.

UPDATE: Talk of the Sound has learned that since reporting on the incident the New Rochelle Police became involved in the case and are conducting an investigation. There are conflicting of accounts of what happened but an alternative explanation being offered is that the student was attempting to leave a classroom and the teacher put out his hand or arm to try and prevent her from leaving. In this version of events, the student initially said the teacher “almost” hit her as she came out of the classroom and later claimed she had been hit. Teachers and staff are typically instructed not to get in the way of a child in such circumstances but to let them go, monitor them and report them to appropriate staff.

As has been demonstrated repeatedly by cases reported by Talk of the Sound, it is the unwritten policy of the New Rochelle Board of Education not to report assaults on staff or students students, or other serious incidents, to the police whenever possible.

The Isaac E. Young Middle School states that Ron teaches 7th and 8th grades classes in Math, Robotics and Computer Technology. He is listed as a teacher in the Bridge To Success program, an Academic Intervention Services program provides support services through additional instruction which supplements the curriculum.
