A Fire was reported and confirmed early Tuesday morning in a two story building located at 54 Dewitt Place. New Rochelle Police got all the residents out safely. The call came into the New Rochelle Fire Department at 2:39am at 2:57am a second alarm was called to the scene. Heavy fire coming from the 2nd floor.
UPDATE 3:03 AM: All of on duty New Rochelle Fire department called to the scene 2301 the fire chief on the scene at 3:04am. Con Edison called to the scene to shut off power and gas.
UPDATE 3:08 AM: Mutual Aid called into the city Fire departments from Hartsdale, Greenville, Pelham and Mount Vernon called in to cover New Rochelle Fire Department houses.
UPDATE 3:10 AM: Off duty New Rochelle Firemen called in to cover Fire houses Update 3:13 am — Red Cross called to the scene setting up shelter services at New Rochelle Police headquarters.
UPDATE 3:16 AM: 2302 reporting all visible fire knocked down on 1st floor and the roof was opened up.
UPDATE 3:30 AM: 2302 reporting fire under control checking for Hot Spots.
UPDATE 3:40 AM: Engine 5 mutual aid engine and ambulance called to a EMS call 266 Pelham Road. Update 3:50 am — New Rochelle engine 25 Stratton Road Engine returned to service.
UPDATE 3:57 AM: Engine 25 going to a ℅ alarm investigation 114 Taymil road. Update 3:59 am — Ladder 11 returned to service covering Station 1 – Harrison street.
UPDATE 3:59 AM: New Rochelle Engine 17 put into service at Station 1 covered by off duty firemen called in to help out.
UPDATE 4:32 AM: New Rochelle Engine 23 in service from scene. The New Rochelle Fire Department has reported no injuries as of 4:45 am.
UPDATE 4:58 AM: ALL New Rochelle Fire department units are picking up and leaving the scene at 54 Dewitt Place.
UPDATE 10:00 AM: News 12 is reporting that the cause of the fire was a faulty oil burner and that four families are homeless mostly childern they are also saying that One firefighter suffered a minor back injury. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be fine.
Thank god ladder company 12 Webster Avenue was in service early this morning. They were the first ladder company on the scene. Please remind your city officials that this ladder company is needed badly in this city. Remember this ladder company could go out of service if the man power falls below 27. I just hope our city officials understand that these firemen are needed.
