MAAC Conference Names Three Iona Players to All-Conference Teams: Scott Machado, Mike Glover and Momo Jones

Iona AllMAACIona College seniors Scott Machado, point guard, and Mike Glover, forward, were named today to the Men’s Basketball All-MAAC 1st Team. Lamont “MoMo” Jones was named to the All-MAAC 2nd Team.

Machado, who leads the nation in assists, is widely expected to be named conference Player of the Year at the MAAC Postseason Awards Show on Thursday, March 1st at the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA. Machado finished the regular season averaging 10.1 assists per game.

Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year will also be announced Thursday in Springfield.

On a conference call with reporters earlier today, Iona Head Coach Tim Cluess said that he was very proud of his team. In response to a question, Cluess said thatwhether Iona wins the upcoming conference tournament should get an invite to the NCAA tournament. Cluess is expected to be name the top coach in the conference.

On Machado, Cluess praised the leadership role the point guard took on this season, adding “I think he should be Conference Player of the Year.

Iona has been an offensive powerhouse this season. The team leads the nation in scoring, averaging 83.4 points per game and assists, averaging 19.5 per game. Iona is ranked second nationally in field goal percentage.

The MAAC conference tournament begins on March 1st. Iona, the first seed in the tournament, will face the winner of Marist v. St. Peters on Saturday March 3rd. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3. All MAAC tournament games will be broadcast on various ESPN channels.
