Days After Controllers Caught Sleeping at Westchester County Airport, Emergency Officials Looking for Plane Crash Victims

Written By: Robert Cox

Timing is everything.

Less than a week after Fox5 ran a story on Air Traffic Controllers Caught Sleeping in the Tower, Westchester County’s Department of Emergency Service is now looking for volunteers to act as victims of an aircraft accident at the Westchester County Airport.

The Westchester County Airport will be conducting their bi-annual, full scale disaster exercise on Saturday May 5th, from 9 am to 4 pm. The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize and train emergency response personnel with all aspects of the Airport’s Emergency Response Plan. The exercise will serve as a test of the response capabilities of all emergency agencies in a simulated aircraft emergency response situation.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers to participate in a large, full scale exercise. If you would like to participate as a mock “actor / victim” who has sustained injuries in an aircraft accident please contact Mike Kenyon via email at mjk2@westchestergov.com or via telephone at 914-231-1160. Thank you.

This certainly makes sense. If you are going to allow air traffic controllers to sleep in the tower you need to be extra prepared for plane crashes.
